Mohanam

Mohanam is an Auroville group that works in conjunction of local village heritage both tangible and intangible in the village north of Pondicherry town. It works with a grant-in-aid support from the Pondicherry tourism department. This project focuses on development and management of a ‘rural tourism promotion’ project in the village of Alankuppam, Pondicherry. The project is envisioned to house a craft village in order to showcase the local crafts, food products, arts and host events with local performing arts. There will be an on-site guest facility to create enough revenue with activities to maintain the facilities.  This would also promote livelihood training, cultural education & events and set up marketing network for village handicraft products. The planning and architecture is inspired from the local settlement plans and domestic forms.
